Why is Healthcare Sharing Necessary in the United States Today, and Why Is It Good for Your Alumni?
There is much wrong with U.S. Healthcare. It is far too expensive and unwieldy for various reasons, many of which are the result of successful multi-billion-dollar lobbying paid for by the major insurers who made $1.07 TRILLION in profit in 2023! Obamacare mandates that everyone with pre-existing medical conditions (PreEx) be covered, so healthy people must pay for PreEx, which they don’t have through higher premiums. When the individual mandate was removed, it made the insured pool less healthy, further driving up prices. Wholesale group healthcare is not available to those who do not have a common employer, a major door opener for Sharing. Insurance companies have an incentive to spend as much instead of as little as they can because of a cap on profits based on spending, i.e., they need to spend more to make more. Reference-based pricing (RBP) saves over 50% of hospitalization costs, so the majors are in no hurry to use it (although it is catching on). Obesity and diabetes are epidemic in the U.S., with over 74% of Americans overweight and 43% obese, according to the CDC, and 55,000,000 people projected to be diabetic by 2030, which accounts for a full 25% of our total healthcare expenditure, according to the American Diabetes Association. Lack of tort reform, prevented by the Bar Association lobby. Eldercare cost explosion – people over 65 comprise 17% of our population, accounting for 37% of all healthcare spending in 2020. Obamacare is not customizable while Sharing is. And so on. HCS is less money, better for those who don’t have PreEx, and great for the associations who partner with us to offer their Members Alumnicare.
